Plumbago zeylanica (scientific name: Plumbago zeylanica) is a perennial plant of the Plumbaginaceae family found in tropical and subtropical regions. It has long been used in Ayurveda as "Chitraka," and has traditionally been used for stomach health, blood circulation support, skin care, and other purposes. The roots contain characteristic naphthoquinone compounds, and are known as irritating plants.
In terms of components, plumbagin , flavonoids, phenols, glycosides, etc. have been identified as representative active ingredients. Based on these components, multifaceted physiological activities such as anti-inflammatory , antioxidant , antibacterial/antifungal , cell growth regulation , and antitumor have been reported, mainly at the basic research level.
